The Future of Sustainable Resources: What's in Store For Us?

Since this is the beginning of the new decade, new trends are bound to arise in becoming sustainable.

Just think of the big changes that have happened over the past 10 years. Throughout the roaring 2010’s we’ve gone from becoming big plastic consumers to having cities ban plastics from being used altogether. We’ve discovered cheap prepaid electricity, e-jeepneys and buses, and even eco-bricking.

Lucky for us, that’s only the beginning. We’ve got so much more to come in terms of sustainable resources and living. Here are some of the predictions experts have for the next decade of ecological effects in the Philippines:

1. Coins for Plastic Exchange Booth

Several First World countries have small machines that recycle plastics in exchange for money. For a Third World country like ours, this is a dream come true. People living off the streets could gain more money collecting discarded plastic bottles, all while keeping the surroundings neat from littered plastic bottles and soda cans.

2. Less Toxic Fumes from Cars

There are plenty of talks on improved public transportation in the Philippines. Namely, a subway project from Japan in Makati and extension of MRT3 in EDSA extending to San Jose Del Monte Bulacan. These welcome changes in the otherwise congested city will contribute to the less emission of gas fumes from private cars.

Another great trend for this new decade is the release of bio-fueled cars and e-jeepneys running on electricity instead of biodiesel.

3. Clean Energy Powering Homes and Businesses

Last but not least is the rise of solar panel installation on houses and buildings. Not only will you be using clean and renewable energy, but you’ll also be able to save up on costs since it’s an investment that pays back in the long run.

Solar panel installation is one of the trends to look out for in the years to come.
