The Beginning of Solar Power in the Philippines

The ‘70s and ’80s were two decades filled with political issues in the Philippines, which led the country to neglect basic necessities such as our energy sources. People frequently experienced the inconvenience of blackouts and power outage during this time, sometimes lasting weeks.

One man began to think outside the box and collect data to find other means of keeping houses well-lit and safe in these grueling times. He then looked up and began to find ways of bringing solar power in the Philippines—something that hasn’t been done by anyone before.

Solar energy panels were invented back in 1955, existing all the way from the USA. And since the internet didn’t exist yet that time, there weren’t many people willing to put a gamble on bringing such sophisticated technology to a developing country like the Philippines.

But this man dared to do so.

In 1976, Robert Lopez-Puckett, the pioneer of solar panel installation in our country. They were able to help communities and businesses keep afloat by providing solar energy to power their homes and buildings.

Robert Lopez-Puckett went on to become a Renewable Energy Grandmaster in the Philippines and ventured into various other sustainable businesses in supplying wind energy, geothermal energy, hydrothermal energy, and even the rapidly growing e-jeepneys.

Today, Robert Lopez-Puckett is the Managing Director at Solaready Inc., one of the most trusted and well-rounded solar energy companies in the country. They continue to supply the demand they began in 1976 with quality products and services. They’ve only grown stronger and steadfast in the face of adversity.
