Solar Energy: Yay or Nay? Five most common solar myths debunked

The demand for Solar Energy is becoming more prevalent as more and more people are shifting to renewable energy as better option for power supply. For the past years, solar energy has established itself as one of the best sources of renewable energy. In fact, solar energy is considered as one of the cheapest available power sources and is more economical for residential and commercial use.

While experts agree that solar energy is beneficial to the environment, and are considered “smart investment”, however, there are still skepticism and rumors against it.

It’s time to debunk the most common solar energy myths and spread the facts on solar!

Myth 1 : Solar energy is very expensive and are not economical

Fact: Investments on Solar panels continue to rise from 2009 to 2015 as solar panels become more affordable. Solar energy can make huge cuts in your electricity bills and is a good investment that starts paying off the moment it is activated. In fact, homeowners who were able to make the initial investment on solar panels and shift into using solar energy will enjoy reduced electrical bills in the long run.

Myth 2: Solar panels are too complicated to install and require a lot of maintenance

Fact: Installing solar panels does not take too much effort as long as you have a reliable manufacturer. Likewise, solar panels are built to be durable and can last a long time. They are built to withstand harsh weather and require minimal maintenance. Solar panels just need to be cleaned with water to remove dust and stains.

Myth 3: Solar panels will damage your roof

Fact: Solar panels extend the life of a roof by protecting it from any damage and preserving the portion where solar panels are installed. Professional installers are skilled at installing solar panels and are trained to address almost any roof type with well-tested techniques, special materials and tools designed to prevent leaks.

Myth 4: Solar panels won't work when it is cloudy

Fact: Another common misconception is that, solar panels won’t work when it is cloudy. This is not true because any sunlight that hits the surface of a solar panel is converted into electricity. Cloudy weather does not affect the efficiency of solar panels in generating electricity and producing enough power source. Even in cold weather condition, solar panels will continue to convert all the available sunlight into electricity.

Myth 5: Solar panels are harmful to the environment when their life cycle ends

Fact: Solar panels are manufactured to last for 25 years, but they can still be recycled.

Further researches are being done by experts on how to reach the full potential of recycling all solar panel components. More importantly, solar cell manufacturers adhere to the recycling standards to make sure that solar panels will not be harmful to the environment.
